I spent most of my days this summer at a local community centre working in day camps. Among many other memories and moments, it was here that I also had an epiphany.
I had just met Lucy that day. The most Sex Tube adorable, interesting and funny seven year old Id ever met. We spent most of the trek out to Jericho Beach getting to know each other. On the walk there, I noticed her fidgeting with the straps on her backpack as she curled her lips and furrowed her brow. Seeing someone dear to me in discomfort, I offered to carry it for her. She eagerly accepted. Before the pink straps even draped over her fingers, she bolted ahead to the front of the group. There I was, alone, with the silliest sense of abandonment and rejection Id ever felt. Ah, the torture that is being the nice guy. On the way back, she quickly presented me with the opportunity to do her a great service once more. She bats her eyelashes, throws me a half-toothed smile, and I hastily comply.
Most of my life with women Id been Hot Adult sweet, convenient and available. Surely there had to be a correlation between being there for her, sacrificing yourself, building trust and her reciprocated love for you? To the misfortune of good-willed men the world over, the answer is a troubling no.
How many times have you looked at a girl and said, what the fuck is she doing with him?
